Louisville Kentucky Condo Development Preserves the History of a Great City

Downtown Condominiums Are a Priority of Louisville Metro Planners

Housing was high on the list of the Downtown Development Corporation in 2002, but not at the cost of sacrificing the charm of historic structures.  That’s how the façade of The Mercantile Lofts with its unique window design gracing each story came to be integrated in to the comprehensive plan for revitalizing the downtown condominium scene.  A significant number of lofts for sale in Louisville are a recent development, and city planners are actively pursuing growth in the number of Louisville Kentucky lofts available.

In the past five years, over 700 new downtown residential units have been developed, with an additional 1200 housing units in the development pipeline.  An update of the DDC’s residential market analysis conducted in the spring of 2005 set a reachable goal of 4,600 new housing units completed by the end of this decade, with a projected absorption of 600 units per year.

5 Things to Keep in Mind before Moving to Louisville

Considered as the largest city of Kentucky, Louisville is also the 17th largest city in the whole of United States. The city is named after King Louis XVI of France and is famous for what is dubbed as the “Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports”, the Kentucky Derby. It is the home of many notable personalities such as light bulb inventor Thomas Alba Edison, boxing legend Muhammad Ali and box office actor, Tom Cruise. It is also the site of several historical events including the first library in the South to open for African Americans, the first self-contained artificial heart transplant and the development site of the first cervical cancer vaccine.

The central business district (CBD) of the city is located on the south of the Ohio River, southeast of the Falls of Ohio. 6.75 miles south of the CBD, the airport can be found while most residential areas are located on the south and east of downtown. On the east, one can find the Hurstbourne Parkway, an industrial district. A survey of architecture in the area reveals a combination of old and new buildings. The downtown area has a scattering of modern skyscrapers while the old Louisville neighborhood has the largest preservation of Victorian homes and buildings.

Whether you are planning to purchase Louisville condos or Louisville apartments, on the north, south, east or west of the city, you will be greeted with an array of attractions. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a history or nature buff, you will find something to do here.

Have you purchased lofts for sale in Louisville? Before you decide to move in to your new home, there are several things you should know. There are some pieces of knowledge which are exclusive to residents of Louisville Kentucky lofts which might alienate you, a first time Louisville condos owner, from your neighbor. Hence, here are five things you must know before you move to your new Louisville apartments:

  • Learn the meaning of “Kentuckiana”. With Louisville sitting right next to Southern Indiana, many residents of the nearby state come to Louisville to work, eat, drink and shop. Because of this, local media covers the news and events in border cities including Jefferson, Clarkville, New Albany and Corydon. The result of this combined media coverage has led to a term which refers to both Louisville and Southern Indiana or Kentuckiana.
  • How is Louisville pronounced? There are many Louisville cities in the US, and each of them is pronounced differently. Those who have been living in their own Louisville Kentucky condos pronounce it as “Looavull”. Other variations include “Looaville” and “Luhvull”. Pronouncing it as “Lewisville”or “Looeyville” will surely give you away as an outsider.
  • There are three major basketball teams which are supported in Louisville – the University of Louisville’s Louisville Cardinals, Indiana Hoosiers of Indiana University and the Kentucky Wildcats of the University of Kentucky.
  • In the area where the major Louisville interstates I-64, I-65 and I-71 you will find Spaghetti Junction. Avoid it all costs if you don’t want to be stuck in traffic for a long time.
  • Lastly, interstates have their own names. You won’t probably hear the traffic report about I-264 but if you know that it’s called Watterson Expressway then you’ll be okay.

So, are you excited to move in to your new Louisville Ky lofts? Feel free to read these tips again and keep them in mind always – they’ll help make your stay in Louisville so much better!
