Downtown Development Louisville: a vision for a new world

Downtown Louisville is the biggest urban hub of the Louisville Metropolitan Area. It is also the oldest part of the city and its early development came during the railroad era and diminished with the arrival of river transportation.

In recent years, however, downtown development Louisville plans have been unveiled causing major growth spurts in the area. Today you will see the construction of several high rise buildings, and the surge in the residential and retail industry in the city center. The Louisville Slugger Field and the expansion of the Waterfront Park has sparked downtown development Louisville and has led to the rebuilding of the abandoned blocks in the eastern edge of downtown and the construction of new condominium units and shops. Downtown development Louisville is considered as one of the best places to work and visit, thanks to the number of residential units available in the area. Loft Louisville apartments have been built and a scattering of luxury Louisville condominiums proliferate the area. Have you ever heard of Fleur de lis on Main? It made the news due to the whooping $30 million spent for its construction. At present it is still one of the top residential options in downtown development Louisville.

According to recent figures, estimates show that the number of housing units in downtown Louisville will increase even more in the years 2005 to 2010 despite the fact that a lot of the buildings being put up in the area are converted into mixed usage. For example, the historic Henry Clay building at Third and Chestnut streets is currently used for residential, restaurant, retail and space for events.

Today, downtown development Louisville is again the subject of many reports particularly due to the 62-story Museum Plaza Skyscraper. Several civic leaders and private developers have invested millions to this project. Upon its completion, government officials believe that this new skyscraper that will grace the city’s skyline will serve as an icon to the new world, an effort to create energy at night in downtown Louisville.

Will the development plans ever work? Who knows? One thing is for sure, though, if you're driving by downtown Louisville, better take a look around you because chances are, it wont be the same in the next few months.
